1. Get the price before anyone lifts anything
The single biggest difference between companies is how they price. Some give a firm price online before you book. Others only quote after a crew is already at your house, when it is much harder to say no.
Ask for the full price in writing, including any service fee, and ask whether disposal fees are included. A quote that grows once the truck is loaded is a bad sign.
With DumpGo you pick your items online and see the total before you book. Current Philadelphia examples (one $75 service fee is added per pickup): a standard couch is $30, so a single couch pickup is $105 total, and a hot tub is $820, so $895 total. Booking 4 to 5 items saves 10% on the items, and 6 or more items saves 20%.
2. Read recent reviews, not just the star rating
A high rating means little if the reviews are old or vague. Read the most recent ones and look for the details that matter: did the crew arrive on time, did they charge what was quoted, did they carry everything out and leave the space clean?
Check more than one place. A company can look great on its own website and very different on Google and Yelp, where reviews come from real customers. Be cautious with any company that has almost no reviews anywhere.
3. Ask what happens to your stuff
Good junk removal is not just a trip to the landfill. Furniture, appliances and other items in usable condition can be donated, and metal, cardboard and electronics can often be recycled.
Ask the company what it does with usable items before you book. When DumpGo picks up furniture that is still in good, usable condition, we donate it to local charities instead of sending it to the landfill.
4. Confirm the practical details
Before you book, confirm four things: whether same-day service is available, whether the company serves your neighborhood, what it will not take, and how you pay.
Most companies will not take hazardous materials or chemicals. If you have paint, chemicals or anything that might be hazardous, ask about it when you book instead of assuming the crew will take it.
DumpGo serves Philadelphia, South Jersey and Delaware within about 65 miles of Philadelphia, is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, and takes online payment when you book. You can also call or text (609) 828-9773.
5. Red flags that mean you should keep looking
Walk away from a company that shows any of these signs:
- No price until the crew arrives, or a price that changes once the work starts
- Cash only, with no receipt or booking confirmation
- No business name, phone number or service area listed anywhere
- Promises to take everything, including hazardous waste and chemicals
- Pressure to decide on the spot, or a quote that expires if you do not book immediately
A quick checklist before you book
Price in writing before the crew arrives? Recent reviews that mention on-time arrival and the quoted price? A plan for donation and recycling? Same-day availability in your area? If the answer to all four is yes, you have found a company you can trust with your home.
